A Season of Gratitude

About a year ago, I embarked on a journey that I termed, a “year of gratitude.” I seriously wanted to reflect on life’s gifts. So, to get that going, I started taking walks daily, posting good thoughts on social media, turning away negative energy, purposely paying attention to nature and the world around me.

For example, the other day, I was walking and noticed the most dramatic, brilliant blue and pink sky. It was beautiful. But, after staring at it for a while, I complained that I didn’t have my camera. I wanted to capture the moment. Then it occurred to me that there was no need to capture the moment — it had captured me- and I was living in it. All I had to do was look up, be aware and enjoy it. A Gift.

I am still on this reflective journey, purposely paying attention to life’s gifts. So, I thought why not share this journey of gratitude- which has changed the way I see things- and invite others to start their own journey. Since I had taken hundreds of photos during my walks, I created a calendar full of photos and passed them out to some of my closest family and friends along with a letter personally inviting them on this journey of gratitude. I was really excited that most of them accepted the challenge!

The challenge is simple: Pay attention to life’s gifts that are presented every single day. Mark them in your memory, write them down, take a photo, and even more, share them. This has been the best thing for me, and a constant reminder that no matter how difficult some days are, training your mind on positive thoughts, expressing what you are grateful for and fully receiving the love and gifts given to you daily keeps you grounded and winning- every time! I hope you will take up this challenge too and mark your moments of gratitude and be reminded, every day, to look up and see everything!
